Haad

It’s not exactly going out on a limb to suggest that the Giants have employed more cheaters than most teams over the years. That’s two Fresno players in a week getting suspended for steroids. Former major leaguer Abraham Nunez began serving a 50-game penalty last Thursday. Haad played in 17 games for the Giants last season, going 2-for-28.

Haad, 27, settled in as a pretty good Triple-A catcher last season, batting .302/.338/.464 in 80 games for Portland. He could back up Justin Knoedler for Fresno.

Haad, 28, took over as Mike Matheny’s backup after Yorvit Torrealba was traded and went 2-for-28. The Giants might go with Justin Knoedler next year.

Haad, 27, takes over as Mike Matheny’s backup after hitting .284/.311/.493 in 215 AB for Fresno. He’ll get as little work as any backup in the majors, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants looked at bringing in someone with major league experience.

Haad will back up Kelly Shoppach with Victor Martinez headed to the disabled list. He was hitting just .159 in 63 at-bats in the minor leagues this season.

Haad didn’t make an appearance in his week in the majors.

He’ll probably compete with Justin Knoedler for the job in spring training. Rodriguez, 27, will probably back up whatever catcher the Giants assign to Triple-A Fresno.

When he wasn’t serving a 50-game steroids suspension, Haad hit .182 in the minors last season. The 29-year-old might be the backup for Shawn Riggans at Triple-A Durham.

The Indians needed some extra depth with Victor Martinez sidelined. Haad is unlikely to see time in the majors this year.
