Yefri Carvajal homered Tuesday in his debut for SS Single-A Eugene.
The 18-year-old Carvajal, who took a $350,000 bonus to sign out of the Dominican Republic in 2005, was hitting .340/.404/.500 with five steals in five tries in 25 games for the Rookie AZL Padres. He is looked at as having one of the highest ceilings in the system.
  • Yefri Carvajal went 5-for-5 with two RBI and three steals for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Thursday.
Carvajal homered in his previous two games, so he’s on his best streak as a pro. The 20-year-old outfielder probably should have repeated low-A ball after hitting .268/.305/.357 for Fort Wayne last season, but he was moved up to the California League for the start of this year. He’s currently batting .250/.282/.382 in 68 at-bats.
