2015 Season in Review: Jimmie Johnson
CREW CHIEF: Chad Knaus
TEAM: Hendrick Motorsports
TOP 5s: 14
TOP 10s: 22
LAPS LED: 558
POLES: 1 (Phoenix II)
WHAT WENT RIGHT: Started the year off strong by winning four of the first 15 races, including Dover, his 10th win at the 1-mile track ... Only recorded one DNF (Charlotte II, engine) ... Finished the year strong with a win at Texas and a pole at Phoenix, his first since the 2014 Coca-Cola 600.
WHAT WENT WRONG: Johnson’s championship hopes were dashed in the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup at the unlikely track of Dover. Johnson finished 36 laps down after spending time in the garage for a part failure ... The second Dover race was in the midst of a stretch where Johnson didn’t lead a lap for 12 races
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2016: With the retirement of Jeff Gordon is now the senior driver at Hendrick Motorsports having been with the team his entire Sprint Cup career ... Johnson will more than likely tie and surpass Dale Earnhardt Sr., on the all-time wins list. Johnson has 75 to Earnhardt’s 76 wins ... Johnson will once again be in the mix for a championship, his seventh, which would tie Richard Petty and Earnhardt.
