CREW CHIEF: Ernie Cope (2015) / Alan Gustafson (2016)

TEAM: JR Motorsports (2015) / Hendrick Motorsports (2016)

TOP 5s: 11

TOP 10s: 27

WHAT WENT RIGHT: Elliott had a second consecutive stellar season in the Xfinity Series. While he came up short from winning the championship for a second year in a row, he did finish second. … Elliott’s penchant for consistency was uncanny. Of the 33 races in the 2015 Xfinity season, Elliott finished outside the top 10 just six times.

WHAT WENT WRONG: Elliott fell behind the eight-ball in the season-opening race at Daytona due to a crash that left him with a 28th-place finish. While he quickly was able to climb back into the top 10 in the Xfinity standings, the poor start left him in a position of playing from behind the rest of the season. He never led the series and simply could not overcome the supremacy of eventual 2015 Xfinity champ Chris Buescher.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2016: Elliott moves to the Sprint Cup Series, replacing the legendary Jeff Gordon in the iconic No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Elliott will be paired with Gordon’s crew chief, Alan Gustafson. … Elliott struggled somewhat in his five one-off starts in the Sprint Cup Series last season. … While hopes are high, expectations should be tempered, given that he is a rookie in NASCAR’s premier series. … Elliott will be competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award honors with 2015 Xfinity champ Chris Buescher, Brian Scott and Ryan Blaney.
