One of the oldest ovals to play host to NASCAR-sanctioned events is going virtual.
Eldora Speedway, the half-mile dirt track in Rossburg, Ohio, that was built in 1954, will be added to iRacing.com’s catalog of racetracks.
The simulation racing game platform revealed last week that dirt tracks and cars would be added to the game.
Eldora, which was purchased by Tony Stewart in 2004, will play host to its fourth consecutive Camping World Truck Series race in July.
“This is great news,” said Sprint Cup veteran Kyle Larson, who ran the first two truck races at the clay oval and swept all three USAC divisions at the Four Crown Nationals at Eldora in 2011. “iRacing adding dirt racing, and Eldora Speedway, is really exciting. I’ve had some fantastic races at the Big E and can’t wait to go there virtually. As a longtime member of iRacing, I’ve offered my help as they develop dirt, so I am looking forward to contributing to the project.”
Said Eldora general manager Roger Slack: “We’re ecstatic to partner with iRacing in bringing dirt track racing to sim racers around the world. Eldora has a history of firsts that have produced the biggest and best events in dirt track racing, so it’s fitting that the World’s Greatest Dirt Track® will be available on the world’s greatest sim racing service.”
More than 200,000 have joined iRacing since its 2008 inception. The simulation features races in dozens of official series, including NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA and V8 Supercars.
