NASCAR on NBC podcast, Episode III: Joey Logano

Joey Logano

Joey Logano

Defending Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano is the first NASCAR Sprint Cup driver to be a guest on the NASCAR on NBC podcast.

In our third episode, taped Wednesday afternoon inside the Team Penske driver’s motorhome in the Daytona International Speedway infield, Logano spoke at length about how he has changed over the past seven seasons in NASCAR’s premier series since entering as an 18-year-old in the 2009 Daytona 500.

“As I’ve gotten older, and you live through some situations, and I feel like I’ve been through a lot for a 25-year-old,” he said. “You start hearing people form an opinion about you, good or bad. The ones you care about -- obviously, you want to be liked, no one wants to be hated -- but the ones I care about are the people I care about. I care about my family and my race team and what they think of me.

“I know my race team has got my back. Those guys would take a bullet for me.”

Other topics covered in the podcast:

--Logano recaps his recent media tour of New York and what he dislikes most about his PR obligations (though he likes nearly all of it, including answering incessant questions).

--An exploration of Logano’s role on the Driver Council and his side of how Brad Keselowski learned he’d been added to the new panel.

--How he has learned to let go of controversies such as last season’s dustup with Matt Kenseth at Martinsville (and where things stand now).

--Where he believes he ranks as a restrictor-plate driver after winning two of the four races last season and which driver he considers the best in the draft.
