According to the New York Daily News, Larry Brown will be the next coach of the Knicks.
He’s going to get a five-year deal worth between $50-60 million and the official announcement will come today or tomorrow.
  • Larry Brown is now healthy enough to coach next season according to his agent, Joe Glass.
Brown will be meeting with Pistons brass today to figure out his future. If he is kept by the Pistons, Herb Williams should be a lock as the Knicks coach this season. However, there is strong sentiment that the Pistons will buy Larry out today, meaning he will probably get a huge offer from Isiah Thomas and the Knicks. Larry’s wife, Shelly, wants him to take a year off and spend time with their young children, but Phil Jackson money from the Knicks will probably win that argument.
  • Isiah Thomas and Garden chairman James Dolan met with Larry Brown last night.
As Larry’s world turns and he closes in on becoming the highest paid coach in history, Herb Williams moves closer to the unemployment line. Larry should be announced as the Knicks coach at any moment.
  • Larry Brown and Herb Williams are going to have dinner tonight.
If Larry takes the job, Herb will likely remain on the staff as an assistant, and if Larry doesn’t take it, the job will likely be Herb’s. We’re guessing Brown wants to let Williams know he’s taking the job before they go public with it.
