Justin Hamilton’s chances of making the Heat roster are declining due to a hamstring injury.
Hamilton is dealing with a hamstring strain that has kept him out of the first two summer league games for Miami. Considering the Heat already have 13 guaranteed contracts, Hamilton needs to make an impression if he wants to stick around. Jarvis Varnado and Robert Dozier, also members of the Heat summer league team, are both dealing with injuries as well.
  • Small Forward #32
2010 second-round draft pick Jarvis Varnado will play in summer league for the Heat.
Varnado spent last season in Italy and Israel playing overseas, but he’ll look to compete for a roster spot with the Heat for next year.
  • Small Forward #32
Jarvis Varnado is hoping to land a contract in the NBA and is not considering European offers at this time.
The 2010 second-round draft pick hopes to earn a spot with the Heat after finishing last season with Virtus Roma in Italy. Whether he earns a spot with the Heat or any other team, he’ll have no fantasy value.
  • Small Forward #32
Jarvis Varnado was limited during summer league due to an injury.
There is no disclosure on the injury, but Varnado was a second-round pick in 2010 and is viewed as a longshot to get an invite to training camp, let alone make the final roster.
  • POR Shooting Guard #24
Terrel Harris’ agent said that his client is “looking at all possibilities.”
Sportando had reported that Harris has been offered to a handful of European teams, but nothing is imminent and the unrestricted free agent continues to evaluate his options. Even if Harris gets an invite to Miami’s training camp, he’s not going to have a clear path to a spot on the team with Jarvis Varnado, Robert Dozier and Mickell Gladness all expected to be vying for the last two spots on Miami’s roster.
  • NBA Head Coach #5
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel believes that the Heat “could fill out their power rotation” with Juwan Howard.
Howard finally got his championship ring last season, but he was still on the fence in July as to whether or not he was going to retire. Bringing him back seems like a lukewarm idea given there are more talented (and younger) options available, but Howard does have a familiarity with the team. For what it’s worth, the report also suggests that Mickell Gladness, Terrel Harris and Jarvis Varnado could all be considered for a roster spot as well.
  • WAS Center #55
Josh Harrellson’s contract with the Heat is non-guaranteed.
In other words, this is a no-risk signing for Miami. Harrellson, Mickell Gladness and Jarvis Varnado will compete for a roster spot, and Harrellson should be considered the heavy favorite going into training camp.
  • MIA Shooting Guard #3
Dwyane Wade (rest) will not play on Tuesday night.
Wade is simply getting a night off with the Heat having another game on Wednesday. All signs point to the stud fantasy guard being ready for opening night after having knee surgery in the offseason. He’s showed no ill effects of the procedure in exhibition action. Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony and Jarvis Varnado will also not play.
  • Small Forward #32
Jarvis Varnado (hamstring) will be limited in training camp.
Varnado isn’t expected to make the final roster and it’s not going to help his chances that he’ll come in with an injury.
  • Shooting Guard #31
Heat waived G/F Rodney Carney and F Jarvis Varnado.
Carney was a training camp invite while Varnado was actually drafted by the team in 2010, but neither had a chance to crack the final roster.
