Kelvin Sampson has had his coaching interview with the Bucks.
Sampson is drawing interest from a few different teams, and it’s worth noting that he’s already been in for his interview with the Bucks. He’s certain to have a handful of other interviews, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he got offered a head coaching job with his reputation as an excellent assistant in Houston.
  • The Suns are expected to interview Kelvin Sampson for their head coaching position and are also interested in Quin Snyder.
Sampson has already interviewed with the Bucks and Bobcats, and he’s expected to interview with the Suns and Sixers this week. Meanwhile, Snyder is drawing interest from both the Bobcats. It would be a surprise if Sampson isn’t hired to be a head coach next season, and Snyder’s name is gaining serious traction as well.
  • The Bucks interviewed Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson and Hawks coach Larry Drew on Wednesday, according to beat writer Gery Woelfel.
Sampson and Drew are two of the finalists for Milwaukee’s vacant head coach position. Steve Clifford was regarded as the third finalist before being hired by Charlotte this week. Sampson has already received the public support of Brandon Jennings, who is scheduled for restricted free agency this summer. Sampson also has connections to the Bucks staff due to his time as an assistant before he left for Houston. Assuming Sampson and Drew are the final two candidates for the Bucks, we could have an answer in the next couple days.
  • The Sixers have received premission to interview Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Bobcats and Bucks have already interviewed Sampson, a hot name in coaching circles with so many openings. According to the Inquirer, Jeff Hornacek is “another name that Hinkie is probably going to look at a little longer.” The Sixers don’t appear close to hiring a new coach.
  • The Bobcats interviewed Kelvin Sampson on Monday for their head coaching vacancy.
He was great for the Rockets as interim head coach while Kevin McHale had a leave of absence. Sampson has been interviewed by the Bucks and he’s shaping up to be one of the more coveted coaching candidates. The Bobcats don’t exactly make a great case for a prospective coach, so Sampson may be weighing his other options.
  • Brandon Jennings publicly supported Kelvin Sampson this weekend, writing, "[Sampson] needs to be a Head Coach in the NBA.”
Jennings knew Sampson as a Bucks assistant coach before he left to join the Rockets’ staff. Sampson has since become a hot head coach candidate -- he interviewed with the Bucks about their vacant coaching job in early May, and he has since been linked to the Bobcats, Sixers and Suns.
  • Kelvin Sampson is the “clear frontrunner” for the Orlando Magic head coaching job, according to NBA reporter Gery Woelfel.
Sampson is currently the head coach at the University of Houston. Sampson was an assistant coach in Milwaukee while John Hammond and Jeff Weltman were the Bucks GM and assistant GM, respectively. Hammond and Weltman are currently working for the Magic’s front office.
