Barack Obama backs league actions against Donald Sterling

Barack Obama

It was a sign of how big the controversy surrounding the racist statements of Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling had gotten — President Barack Obama was asked about it during a press conference in Malaysia with that country’s prime minister. Because what else is going on in that part of the world of importance?

Wednesday at the daily press briefing at the White House, press secretary Jay Carney was asked about Obama’s reaction to Adam Silver giving Sterling a lifetime ban, reports the Associated Press.

President Barack Obama is supporting the NBA’s lifetime ban against Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling... Carney said Wednesday that Obama believes the league did the right thing in response to Sterling’s racist comments.

What else was he going to say?

First off, Silver did the right thing in this case.

Second, this is one of those rare news items where everyone is on the same page — nobody rational is backing Sterling, thinking he is in the right here. We might question why it took the NBA so long to out or how exactly they can oust him as an owner, but nobody is in his corner. It’s an easy call for any politician.
