Goran Dragic got his wish on Thursday, when the Suns sent him to Miami as part of a deadline-day roster shakeup that likely left both Dragic and his now former team in a better situation.

The way things ended was less than ideal, however, with Dragic telling the front office that he wouldn’t re-sign in Phoenix as a free agent, citing trust issues after the team repeatedly added point guards to the roster.

On his way out of town, Dragic wanted to make it clear that he had no hard feelings to the fans in Phoenix, or towards the Suns franchise.

Thank you to my fans, teammates and many friends in Phx!! You are what made #cluborange a 2nd home for me and my family! The Suns organization has been good to me and I hope everyone knows I’d never say or do anything to purposely offend or minimize the success we’ve had. Although my recent words came out harsher than I’d intended, I did feel it was time to find a better fit for me as a bball player who who only wants to be the best and help my team in every way. I’m proud of my time in Phx & never want anything to take away from that or the relationship I’ve built and will continue to build in the community. NOW it’s #heatnation time and I’m excited to bring the Dragon’s fire to Miami!!

I spent a few seasons covering the Suns while living in Phoenix, and can tell you that Dragic is one of the nicest and most unassuming and honest players in the NBA. His comments to the media explaining his feelings weren’t meant to be malicious, but rather were simply stated in order to explain his side of the (fractured) relationship.

Fans in Phoenix shouldn’t be happy that he’s gone, but the Suns front office acquired Brandon Knight and some future draft picks that should set the team up to be in a better position overall than if Dragic had ultimately re-signed.
