LeBron James: NBA Finals schedule gives Warriors more home off days than Cavaliers

There are four games in the NBA Finals preceded by more than one day off.

  • Game 1
  • Game 2
  • Game 5
  • Game 7

Those would also be known as the Warriors’ home games.

Even if the series lasts six games – an even three in each Oakland and Cleveland – the teams would spend more time in California than Ohio.

LeBron James, via Dave McMenamin:

“I know it’s a difficult schedule,” James said after shootaround Tuesday as the Cavs prepared for Game 3 later that night. “I looked at the schedule and they have more time in their home than we have. They gave us every other day back home. They give those guys 2 ½ days of rest when they go back home. But, that’s the schedule and it is what it is.”

James said the Cavs’ plane arrived back in Cleveland at 6 a.m. Monday after leaving Oakland, California, late Sunday night after Game 2. Shortly thereafter, the team met at noon for a film session at the practice facility.

“Not many hours of sleep but, I mean, the schedule it is what it is and you try to get as much rest as you can,” James said.

Wait until someone tells LeBron the Warriors could have four home games and the Cavaliers get a maximum of only three!

To be fair, LeBron isn’t explicitly complaining. To be less fair, he’s probably employing the “I’m just sayin’” method of complaining.

If the Cavaliers want to spend an extra day in Ohio before travelling for Game 5 (and, if necessary, Game 7), they could. I don’t think that outweighs the advantage of acclimating, but they control where they spend their extra off day.

Could this be LeBron’s secret motivation?
