Nene started last season injured, battled plantar fasciitis at the start of the season (after playing in the Olympics) then by the end of the season his knees were giving him issues. He missed 21 games and wasn’t right in a lot of ones he played, and his production on the court showed it with his numbers being the lowest in years.

This time around the Wizards and coach Randy Wittman are expecting Nene to be healthy at the start of next season.

In a good sign, he started training with teammates at the Wizards facility this week, reports J. Michael at CSNWashington.com.

John Wall, Bradley Beal, Eric Maynor, Glen Rice and Martell Webster also are already working out in advance of the Wizards training camp opening Sept. 28.

If Nene and Wall are healthy — and if Wall can play close to the way he did near the end of last season — the Wizards will be in the mix for one of the last few playoff spots in the East. But they are going to need a healthy Nene and both his points in the paint and his defense to make it all work.
