Postponed Nets home opener against the Knicks rescheduled for Nov. 26

We were supposed to be treated to the Nets’ home opener in Brooklyn against the New York Knicks tonight, but the destruction brought on by Hurricane Sandy forced the city to postpone the game until people could actually make their way there to see it in person.

The league announced that the game has been rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center, and will be televised nationally on TNT as it would have been originally.

Postponing the game was the only decision at the time, given the fact that so many in the area were affected by the storm. And even if the game was played, it would likely have happened in a building filled far below capacity, which wouldn’t have been right for a team playing its first game in a brand new arena after relocating to a city brimming with excitement.

It’s worth noting that things are slowly getting back to normal in the Northeast, and that the Knicks’ home opener Friday night at Madison Square Garden -- against LeBron James and the defending champion Miami Heat -- is by all accounts planning to go on as scheduled.
