Rex Chapman had an NBA career that spanned 12 seasons, including from 1997-2000 as a member of the Phoenix Suns.

It’s never pleasant to hear that things have gone south for a former player who had amassed more than $22 million in career earnings, but evidently, here we are.

From ABC15 in Arizona:

A former Phoenix Suns player was arrested Friday, accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a Scottsdale Apple store.

Sgt. Mark Clark said Rex Chapman is alleged to have picked up items in the store, located near Scottsdale Road and Greenway, and made it appear that he was paying for the items through the store’s self-checkout. He would then leave the store without actually paying for the items. ...

Chapman is facing nine counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking in stolen property.

The report goes on to say that there have been multiple incidents of shoplifting over the past several months, totaling over $14,000 in stolen merchandise.

Chapman’s NBA career ended in 2000, and featured stops in Charlotte, Washington, Miami and Phoenix. We heard from him most recently back in April, when he tweeted that John Calipari would be the next head coach of the Lakers.
