Will or won’t the Nuggets waive Kostas Papanikolaou, whose $4,797,664 salary is unguaranteed until Oct. 4?

Matt Janning will want to know.

David Pick:

The Nuggets have 14 players with guaranteed salaries plus Papanikolaou and Erick Green ($100,000 guaranteed). If Denver keeps Papanikolaou, that will essentially fill the regular-season roster.

But if the Nuggets are holding Papanikolaou just in case his salaries helps facilitate a trade between now and Oct. 4 – which seems most likely – Green and Janning would compete for the final spot.

Green’s guarantee gives him an edge, but Denver has enough flexibility to eat that $100,000 if Janning outplays him. I wouldn’t count on that, though. Janning, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, went undrafted in 2010. He impressed in summer league that year but has floated around the world since.
