Andrei Kirilenko has fallen out of the Nets rotation this season, and is missing the team’s brief two-game road trip due to what the team is calling “personal reasons.”
But he may not be coming back.
Kirilenko is healthy, and believes he can still contribute meaningful NBA minutes. That ship has sailed as far as Lionel Hollins is concerned, so Kirilenko may remain away from the team until he’s waived or traded so he’s able to give it a go somewhere else.
From Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York:
And from Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:
Additionally, a source tells Devin Kharpertian of The Brooklyn Game that Kirilenko has “probably” played his last game for the Nets.
As for the Sixers rumor, Philadelphia would require a draft pick in return for taking Kirilenko’s salary off of Brooklyn’s hands. It’s unclear whether or not the team is willing to go that far, but either way, it appears as though if Kirilenko does play again this season, it will be for someone other than the Nets.
