Cook appeared in 17 games after joining the Blazers last season, averaging 0.8 points and 1.4 assists.

Cook appeared in four preseason games for Charlotte, averaging 1.0 point and 2.8 assists in 11.5 minutes. “In fairness to Omar, he probably didn’t get a true chance to display his talents,” coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. “We felt we needed to go with more experienced players at the point guard position.”

Pointer, along with camp cuts Quinn Cook, D.J. Stephens and Nick Minnerath will all suit up for Canton.

Cook averaged 3.3 points and 1.5 assists in six preseason games. He struggled after an impressive opening game in which he scored 13 points and had two steals in 19 minutes.

Cook is going on the injured list to make room for forward Desmond Ferguson, who is about to sign a 10-day contract.

Cook will serve as a reserve point guard for the remainder of the season.

Cook played for the Bobcats in the Rocky Mountain Revue and averaged 3.7 points and 5.0 assists. He’ll compete for a job as a reserve point guard.

Cook had been averaging 10.2 points and a league-leading 9.0 assists in the NBDL. He’ll help back up Damon Stoudamire.

The Blazers have Dan Dickau to back up Damon Stoudamire now, but they’ll keep Cook around for 10 more days. He’ll need to perform well in limited action in order to get signed for the rest of the year.
