Brown’s first contract expired on March 10 and the Cavs declined to re-sign him.

Brown got a chance to play 30 minutes as starter Milt Palacio had an off game.

They lost to the Hawks, but Brown probably scored some points with coach Hamblen. He could replace Jumaine Jones as the starting shooting guard until Kobe gets back, but this night could have been a fluke too. He also had two threes, four boards and three assists. Monitor him closely in the next Laker game.

They’re looking for a third point guard and Brown may have put himself in the driver’s seat to win the spot for Toronto.

Brown’s departure leaves the Hawks with 17 players, including two (Obinna Ekezie and Terrell Brandon) who don’t figure to suit up this season.

The Warriors needed another point guard because of all of their injuries. Whether Brown will be on the roster at the start of the season will depend on the health of the rest of the team.

Brown had been signed three days ago to help the injury-plagued Warriors to get through the exhibition schedule.

Brown will help back up Darrell Armstrong until Baron Davis and David Wesley return.
