The Jazz have waived Vernon Carey Jr., per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.
Carey didn’t do much of anything through his first three seasons in the NBA, though he did finish last season with the Jazz. However, after playing two Summer League games for them, they decided to move on. That doesn’t mean that he won’t continue to play for them this summer, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for his future as a fantasy asset.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Jazz are signing Vernon Carey Jr. to a contract for the remainder of the season.
Carey last appeared in an NBA game on February 14, a little over two weeks before he was waived by the Wizards. The Jazz will be able to get a look at the former second-round pick in Sunday’s regular-season finale, as well as in Summer League action come July.

The Wizards announced Wednesday that they have waived Vernon Carey Jr.
Carey, a second-round pick of the Hornets during the 2020 NBA Draft, was traded to the Wizards at last year’s deadline in a deal headlined by Montrezl Harrell. He didn’t play much for either franchise, appearing in 37 games over the course of three seasons. The move frees up a roster spot for the Wizards and will not impact fantasy basketball.

Vernon Carey Jr. (right quad contusion) has been ruled out for Friday’s game against the Knicks.
Carey hasn’t been in the Wizards’ rotation most nights, so his continued absence won’t impact fantasy basketball.

Vernon Carey Jr. (right quad contusion) is questionable for Friday’s game against the Knicks.
Carey isn’t in the rotation most nights when healthy, so his availability will not impact fantasy basketball. Even if Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford remain sidelined, leave Carey on the waiver wire.

Vernon Carey Jr. (right quad contusion) is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Bulls.
Normally Carey’s availability would have no impact on fantasy basketball, but with Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford out, Carey will likely see minutes if he’s available. It may not be a huge role, but he’ll be worth a stream in deeper leagues if he plays.

Vernon Carey Jr. (right quad contusion) has been ruled out for Wednesday’s matchup with Chicago.
Though they would’ve likely used him in this game with Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford out, Carey has hardly played for Washington this season, so his lack of availability isn’t impacting fantasy basketball.

  • DAL Forward-Center #21
Daniel Gafford (right ankle sprain) has been downgraded to out for Wednesday’s matchup with Chicago.
With Gafford and Kristaps Porzingis out, the Wizards will look to Rui Hachimura and Taj Gibson to play the majority of the center minutes. Vernon Carey will also play a role, though he is listed as questionable with a quad contusion.

  • CHA Power Forward #67
Taj Gibson (strained neck) is out for Thursday’s game against the Mavericks.
Gibson is essentially third on the Wizards’ center depth chart, so his absence won’t impact fantasy basketball much. With Kristaps Porzingis (groin) also sidelined, the Wizards will likely play small when Daniel Gafford needs a rest. Vernon Carey Jr. will be available, but he’s unlikely to get the minutes needed to become a streaming option.

Vernon Carey Jr. (concussion) was a healthy DNP-CD vs. Cleveland on Sunday.
As expected, Carey wasn’t in the rotation despite being medically cleared this weekend. He provides emergency depth but is unlikely to earn minutes while the Wizards’ top four frontcourt players are healthy.
