Carey didn’t do much of anything through his first three seasons in the NBA, though he did finish last season with the Jazz. However, after playing two Summer League games for them, they decided to move on. That doesn’t mean that he won’t continue to play for them this summer, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for his future as a fantasy asset.

Carey last appeared in an NBA game on February 14, a little over two weeks before he was waived by the Wizards. The Jazz will be able to get a look at the former second-round pick in Sunday’s regular-season finale, as well as in Summer League action come July.

Carey, a second-round pick of the Hornets during the 2020 NBA Draft, was traded to the Wizards at last year’s deadline in a deal headlined by Montrezl Harrell. He didn’t play much for either franchise, appearing in 37 games over the course of three seasons. The move frees up a roster spot for the Wizards and will not impact fantasy basketball.

With Gafford and Kristaps Porzingis out, the Wizards will look to Rui Hachimura and Taj Gibson to play the majority of the center minutes. Vernon Carey will also play a role, though he is listed as questionable with a quad contusion.

Gibson is essentially third on the Wizards’ center depth chart, so his absence won’t impact fantasy basketball much. With Kristaps Porzingis (groin) also sidelined, the Wizards will likely play small when Daniel Gafford needs a rest. Vernon Carey Jr. will be available, but he’s unlikely to get the minutes needed to become a streaming option.

As expected, Carey wasn’t in the rotation despite being medically cleared this weekend. He provides emergency depth but is unlikely to earn minutes while the Wizards’ top four frontcourt players are healthy.
