  • DAL Linebacker #13
Cowboys selected Texas LB DeMarvion Overshown with the No. 90 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Originally recruited as a four-star safety prospect, Overshown learned the ropes at LB for two years before locking down a starting gig for the last three seasons. He took to the coverage aspect of the linebacker position like a fish to water, but navigating the congested line of scrimmage has taken a bit more time and is still a work in progress. In 2021 Overshown received a brutal 30.4 run defense grade from PFF, which was one of the lowest grades for any Power Five linebacker. However, after posting a sky-high 24.1% missed tackle rate in 2020, he cut that mark almost in half by missing just 13.2% of his attempts last year while improving to a very respectable 73.8 run PFF defense grade. It was nice to see him create more disruption in the backfield as well with 23 pressures and 46 stops, improving his pass rush chops and gap fits. His 4.56s 40-yard dash (93rd%) and 1.55s 10-yard split (97th%) backs up the speed he displays on tape, but the 15 bench press reps he put up was a troubling 17th percentile mark. A tall, lean rangy player who is light for box work, Overshown’s ability to cover in the slot and in space makes him an intriguing prospect for teams in need of athleticism and coverage skills from their linebacker position.

Texas junior LB DeMarvion Overshown’s status is up in the air ahead of Texas’ matchup with Kansas.
Overshown (6'4/217) is considered a gametime decision for the team’s game against Kansas, as Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made clear this week. In last week’s game against Iowa State, Overshown had to be helped off the field and couldn’t put any pressure on his right leg. He totals 65 tackles (33 solo) with two passes defended so far this season.

Texas junior LB DeMarvion Overshown (undisclosed) has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State.
Overshown (6'4/217) is one of Texas’ best defensive players, so this certainly qualifies as a noteworthy personnel loss. No reason has been given as to why the junior linebacker will not be able to return to Saturday’s game. Overshown entered Saturday as the Longhorns’ leader in tackles, with 52 (27 solo, 1.5 for loss) to his credit.

Texas junior LB DeMarvion Overshown (shoulder) is not expected to take part in spring practice, according to HC Steve Sarkisian.
Overshown (6'4/217) underwent surgery during spring break in order to address a lingering issue, and as a result he will not be available for spring practice. The hope is that with rest and rehabilitation, Overshown will be ready to go by mid-to-late summer. Overshown started all ten games that he appeared in last season, accumulating 60 total tackles (8.0 for loss), one sack, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, four quarterback hurries and two interceptions.

Texas junior DB DeMarvion Overshown will not participate in team activities until the university makes concerted, tangible efforts toward social progress and diversity.
Texas players released a list of requests for change, including name changes for some buildings and the replacement of problematic statues, earlier this summer. Overshown (6'4/215) wrote in his social media announcement on Thursday that "[w]e have been told that things are being done behind close[d] doors but have yet to see any changes.” The redshirt sophomore is applying a little extra degree of pressure, now, even beyond what the team announced in its statement -- that they would not be helping with recruiting or with donor functions until the university faces itself in the mirror and begins striving for true change in terms of how it represents itself. Overshown has played in 17 games over his first two seasons in Austin.

Texas sophomore DB DeMarvion Overshown has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game at Baylor due to an ankle injury.
Overshown (6'4/210) has been sidelined with a back/neck injury for most of the season, and now there’s another malady to add to the list. The sophomore defensive back, who has appeared in just four games, injured his ankle during the third quarter of Saturday’s game at Baylor. Overshown has accounted for nine solo tackles, two sacks and one interception.

Texas sophomore DB DeMarvion Overshown (back/neck) has returned to practice ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Kansas State.
Overshown (6'4/210) has yet to appear in a game this season, as he injured his back/neck during fall camp. He is closing in on making his first appearance of the 2019 campaign, as the sophomore defensive back has been cleared to return to practice. With Caden Sterns also cleared to practice, the Texas secondary should be close to full strength on Saturday.

Texas sophomore DB DeMarvion Overshown (back/neck) is not playing on Saturday against TCU.
Overshown did not make the trip with the team. He has yet to appear in a game after picking up the injury in fall camp. At this point, you have to wonder if it’s possible if the 6-foot-4, 210-pound defender could take a redshirt year; he can still play in four games and get that designation.

Texas sophomore DB DeMarvion Overshown (back/neck) did some running Sunday and is expected to practice Tuesday, per HC Tom Herman.
Overshown (6'4/210) suffered the injury during fall camp and has not appeared in a game this season as a result. The sophomore being able to practice Tuesday, and not experience any issues with his back/neck, would represent the next step towards a return to game action.

Texas sophomore DB DeMarvion Overshown has been ruled out for Saturday’s game vs. Oklahoma State due to a back injury.
Overshown (6'4/210) has yet to appear in a game this season due to the back/neck injury, which first become an issue during fall camp. The hope is that the sophomore defensive back will be able to make his 2019 debut during Texas’ October 5 game at West Virginia, as the team has an open week following this Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Oklahoma State.
