DJ Giddens rushed eight times for 30 yards in the Colts’ Week 18 loss to the Texans.
It was the first time Giddens saw any real work since Week 1, where he spelled Jonathan Taylor late in a blowout win over the Dolphins. With Tyler Goodson (one carry, three yards) set to become a restricted free agent in 2026, Giddens will enter the offseason No. 2 on the depth chart. He hasn’t shown much so far, but how could he? He had only 18 carries all season before this game as Taylor stayed incredibly healthy, and those 18 carries were the most among Indy’s backup runners.

Colts declared CB Sauce Gardner (calf), RB DJ Giddens, DE Tyquan Lewis (ankle), S Reuben Lowery III, TE Will Mallory, S George Odum and OT Luke Tenuta inactive for Indianapolis’ Week 14 game against the Jaguars.
Gardner and Lewis were ruled out on Friday. Everyone else is a healthy scratch. Giddens has fallen behind a now-healthy Tyler Goodson in the battle to be the caddy that Jonathan Taylor doesn’t actually have.
  • IND Running Back #21
Colts declared RB DJ Giddens, CB Jonathan Edwards, TE Will Mallory, OT Luke Tenuta, and S Reuben Lowery inactive for Week 12 against the Chiefs.
No surprises here as the Colts didn’t have anyone listed as questionable heading into the weekend. Giddens remains a healthy scratch. Tyler Goodson will continue to back up Jonathan Taylor.
  • IND Running Back #21
Colts declared RB DJ Giddens, EDGE Samson Ebukam, WR Anthony Goul, EDGE Tyquan Lewis, S Reuben Lowery, TE Will Mallory, and OT Luke Tenuta inactive for Week 10 against the Falcons.
The Colts’ notable injury-related absence is defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. He was placed on injured reserve earlier this week. DJ Giddens remains a healthy scratch for this game.

Colts declared RB DJ Giddens, DE Samson Ebukam, DE Tyquan Lewis, S Reuben Lowery III, TE Will Mallory, LB Chad Muma, and OT Luke Tenuta for Week 8 against the Titans.
DJ Giddens had already seemingly fallen behind Ameer Abdullah, but with Tyler Goodson returning from injury, it appears that Giddens is now the fourth running back on the depth chart in Indianapolis. He can be dropped in all redraft fantasy formats.
  • IND Running Back #21
DJ Giddens did not catch his only target in the Colts’ Week 2 win over the Broncos.
This game remained close from start to finish, so the Colts never had a clear opportunity to get their backup rookie running back a few touches. Giddens did not rush the ball even once. On the plus side, fellow backup Tyler Goodson (elbow) was inactive for this one, suggesting Giddens is ahead of him on the depth chart at this time.
  • IND Defensive End #97
Colts declared EDGE Laiatu Latu, CB Charvarius Ward, RB Tyler Goodson, QB Riley Leonard, TE Will Mallory and OT Luke Tenuta inactive for Week 2 against the Broncos.
Latu is sidelined by a hamstring injury and Ward failed to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol. Both absences should make life easier on the Broncos’ passing offense. Goodson is rehabbing an elbow injury that kept him sidelined in Week 1. He practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday before practicing in full on Friday, which seemingly put him on track to play. His inactive status suggests rookie RB DJ Giddens has already sewn up the No. 2 running back role behind Jonathan Taylor.
  • IND Running Back #21
DJ Giddens rushed 12 times for 41 yards in a Week 1 win over the Dolphins.
Giddens was not a factor at all in the first half and didn’t really see any meaningful snaps until the second half, when the Colts were up by four scores. However, with Jonathan Taylor taking a big hit to the back of the neck and the Colts with an insurmountable lead, Giddens saw plenty of opportunities to end the game. It doesn’t seem like the rookie will be a huge part of the offense when Taylor is healthy. But Giddens would seem to be in line for a big workload if Taylor were hurt, and Taylor’s recent injury history is extensive, which makes Giddens a priority add.
  • IND Running Back #31
Colts RB Tyler Goodson (elbow) is questionable for Week 1 against the Dolphins.
DJ Giddens figures to be the No. 2 back for the Colts if Goodson can’t go. Neither player has any standalone Week 1 value with Jonathan Taylor healthy, but their passing-game involvement could make them interesting at some point in 2025.
  • IND Running Back #31
Colts RB Tyler Goodson (elbow) practiced Wednesday.
Goodson was vying for the RB2 job with rookie DJ Giddens this summer. Goodson suffered an elbow injury in Indy’s second preseason game, paving the way for Giddens to win the camp battle. While it’s a good sign that Goodson was able to practice today, Giddens should be treated as the clear backup to Jonathan Taylor for fantasy purposes.
