NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein believes that Boston College WR Jeff Smith is an intriguing late-round flyer in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Smith is a former quarterback, and while he didn’t put up huge numbers -- or anything close -- as a wideout -- he did show flashes of brilliance. Zierlein cites his speed (4.34 second 40-yard dash) and “plus” short area quickness, but does have concerns about his hands (14 drops) and anticipation. “Even if Smith improves the hands, he may need to show he can become a special teams commodity as well,” writes Zierlein. “The speed is intriguing and could garner a late-round flyer.”

Boston College senior WR Jeff Smith has accepted an invitation to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Smith is a former quarterback for the Eagles, but he made the move to wide receiver and has shown big-time potential. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wideout has work to do as a route-runner, but he’s made improvement there, and gets rave reviews for his ability to control his body. It’s a work-in-progress, but a strong showing in events like this will go a long way towards Smith being a draftable prospect.

Boston College HC Steve Addazio said that senior WR Jeff Smith (upper body) looked good in practice on Wednesday.
Smith was injured against Temple over the weekend, but at this juncture, he looks to be on track to play against NC State upcoming barring a late setback. He’s the team’s leading receiver, owning a 12-204-3 receiving line for the campaign.

Boston College HC Steve Addazio didn’t address senior WR Jeff Smith’s (upper body) status on Monday.
Smith exited Saturday’s game against Temple in the second half with an upper body injury. Prior to his exit, he caught and threw a touchdown pass. The senior leads the Eagles with 12 receptions for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 10 jet sweeps for 103 yards.

The Draft Network’s Brad Kelly writes that Boston College senior WR Jeff Smith showed NFL potential during Thursday’s victory over Wake Forest.
Smith had a huge game against the Demon Deacons, hauling in six passes for 145 yards with two scores and also running for 42 yards. A former quarterback, Smith has always had impressive athleticism. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder’s hands and body control also drew praise from Kelly, as did Smith’s improved route-running. “Smith’s athleticism will warrant NFL looks,” Kelly writes, “and if he continues to improve on the small details of the position, he could find himself on Draft boards next Spring.”

Boston College senior WR Jeff Smith caught six passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday’s 41-34 win over Wake Forest.
Smith (6'1/195) also chipped in with 42 yards rushing, just for good measure. His first touchdown came from 27 yards out early in the second quarter, while his second came on a beautifully thrown bomb of a pass from Anthony Brown down the right sideline in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Smith caught it without breaking stride and won the subsequent foot race for a 71-yard touchdown. Entering action on Thursday, the senior had caught just three passes for 39 yards. He’ll try to make it back-to-back standout performances when the Eagles hit the road to take on Purdue a week from Saturday.
