Herndon

Only one player left changed teams in restricted free agency last year, but Herndon is quite likely to this season. Herndon was solid as a starter in Denver last season, and should get a chance to start elsewhere.

It’s expected the Broncos can only afford to keep Lenny Walls. Herndon had a productive year: 69 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. He could earn a starting job elsewhere.

Herndon has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday’s game.

Herndon has 13 tackles through three games. He has been upgraded to probable.

The restricted free agent is expected to sign an offer sheet with either Baltimore or Atlanta, where he may visit Tuesday. Last year, only one NFL player changed teams in restricted free agency. This year, the Broncos may lose two, Herndon and tight end Jeb Putzier.

He was talking to the Ravens before they signed Samari Rolle. Since a team doesn’t have to give up a draft pick for Herndon, he’s likely to change teams this offseason.

Denver never seriously considered matching the offer. Herndon is currently a starter in Seattle, although they may look for more help in the draft. Both Denver and Seattle are thin at the position.

The RFA has visited the Falcons, Seahawks, and Kansas City. Look for him to sign an offer sheet the Broncos cannot match in the next week.

Technically, the Broncos have seven days to match the offer. But he’s as good as gone. Denver is tight to the cap and have operated under the assumption all offseason that they would lose Herndon. It’s a very nice move for Seattle. They replace Ken Lucas at less than half the price. Herndon is solid, and will likely start over Bobby Taylor next season.
