Earlier this month, Peter King of SI.com pointed out the uncanny extent to which safety Ross Ventrone has ping-ponged on and off the 53-man roster and practice squad of the Patriots.

The official number of Ventrone-related transactions in New England is now up to 18.

Cut (again) on Wednesday, less than two days after appearing in the Monday night win over the Chiefs, Ventrone has been signed (again) to the team’s practice squad.

The latest move comes as part of a four-man transaction, with receiver Tiquan Underwood re-joining the 53-man roster, linebacker Jeff Tarpinian landing on injured reserve, and defensive back Josh Victorian being dumped from the practice squad.

Though some may wonder whether something fishy is happening, given that Ventrone is always willing and available to rejoin the team in whatever capacity he’s offered, any other team can disrupt the Ross Ventrone revolving door by claiming his contract on waivers any time he is dropped from the Pats’ active roster.

Ventrone has appeared in six games this year. If he appears in three of the final six, he won’t be eligible for the active roster/practice squad carousel in 2012.
