Packers coach Mike McCarthy called Scott Tolzien his starter for the Week 12 game against the Vikings, but the guy that Tolzien’s replacing wasn’t quite ready to rule himself out on Tuesday.
Aaron Rodgers referenced Dumb and Dumber when asked about his chances of playing on Sunday, intimating that he’s got a one in a million chance of playing in the game. Rodgers said during an appearance on ESPN 540 that if he isn’t practicing on Friday, there’s no chance he’s playing on Sunday. Rodgers said the same about the practice next Tuesday before the team’s Thanksgiving date with the Lions and explained that pain in his collarbone isn’t getting in the way of a return.
“I think the biggest issue is not the pain at this point,” Rodgers said. “It is the risk of taking a shot like that and what it would do if [the collarbone] displaced. Obviously, I’d be out for the season and worried about any type of complications going forward.”
Rodgers has been throwing and running without any pain, but has yet to take a snap since getting hurt in Week Nine. The Packers lost that game to the Bears and they’ve lost the next two to push themselves down the ladder for playoff positioning in the NFC. Any extension of that losing streak is going to leave Rodgers with a lot of work to do whenever he gets back in the lineup.
