Bills safety Aaron Williams saw his future in some doubt after a serious neck injury last season and said this offseason that he wouldn’t know if he felt comfortable returning until he started taking hits during training camp.
Williams took a pretty big one at Thursday night’s practice and stayed down, leaving some of his teammates concerned that Williams might have injured his neck again. Williams and wide receiver Dez Lewis collided on a slant route by Lewis, leading to the end of the night for both players.
“You hear it, because we’re practicing and we’re kind of in the scrum of all of those guys [at the line],” defensive lineman Kyle Williams said, via the Buffalo News. “And you hear the crowd and you look over and you can see it’s him, immediately your thoughts go to his neck and all those kind of things. As somebody that’s been around him a long time, you get concerned for him. You saw a prayer for him, you hope that that’s not what’s going on. And I think [coach] Rex [Ryan], luckily, said some kind of concussion, so as happy as you can be to see that. I think that’s as happy as it gets.”
A spokesman for the Bills confirmed that Williams was being evaluated for a concussion. If he’s diagnosed with one, he won’t be playing on Saturday against the Colts.
