As rumors swirl that the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh are heading for a divorce, San Francisco guard Alex Boone is standing up for his coach.
“I’m really kind of sick of everybody talking about my coach, especially because he’s like a brother to me,” Boone told reporters after Sunday’s game. “So if I were everybody I’d just keep their mouth shut because they don’t want me coming after them. Especially Jay Glazer, Deion, all these guys. I’m kind of sick of it. Leave my coach alone.”
When a reporter asked Boone why he thinks so many people are questioning Harbaugh’s future in San Francisco, Boone answered, “Because they’re losers.”
Asked about comments from Trent Dilfer questioning Harbaugh’s ability to coach the team going forward, Boone asked, “Who’s Dilfer?” Told that Dilfer played for the 49ers, Boone answered, “Oh. He must not have been that good.”
Boone may be right about that, but how good a player Dilfer was is irrelevant to the question of whether he has insight into what’s going on in the 49ers’ facility today. Boone mostly sounded like he wanted to vent, and then he wanted the questions about Harbaugh to end.
“I’m just sick of everybody talking about our coach,” Boone said. “Why’s it got to be all the drama? Leave our team alone.”
This story is not going to be left alone. The Harbaugh Watch is on, whether the 49ers like it or not.
