The only potential negative emerging from Sunday’s 45-3 shellacking of the Bills by the 49ers was the news that quarterback Alex Smith has injured the middle finger of his throwing hand.
The team downplayed the injury after the game, and for good reason. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Smith has a simple sprain of the middle finger on his throwing hand.
“Nothing at all,” the source said.
That’s very good news for the 49ers, who face the Giants on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s NFC title game, completing the New York team trifecta. In the past two weeks, the 49ers have outscored the Jets and Bills by the combined count of 79-3.
