The Broncos don’t know who will be their starting quarterback come September, which is an unusual position for defending Super Bowl champions to find themselves in at this and most other points in the offseason.
Unusual though it may be, it’s not a situation that’s causing a great deal of concern for cornerback Aqib Talib. Talib expressed confidence in General Manager John Elway’s ability to bring in players who fit with the team and, as a result, he believes that the unsettled quarterback situation won’t get in the way of a run at a second straight title.
“I think as long as the quarterbacks put in the work and listen to coach [Gary Kubiak], if we put in that same work, I don’t see why we can’t repeat,” Talib said on ESPN, via the Denver Post.
Based on the quarterback play the Broncos got over the course of last season, it’s not difficult to understand why Talib or anyone else would feel that the current makeup of the position isn’t an obstacle to success. A defense that lost several members as free agents will have to replace them without missing too many beats while also avoiding too many serious injuries to follow the same blueprint, however, and it’s going to be some time before we know if they pull that off.
