As McNabb regains his job, contract talks continue

In conjunction with Monday night’s game between the Eagles and Redskins, talks between Washington’s franchise quarterback and the team will continue.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, agent Fletcher Smith will travel to D.C. both to attend the game and to have a fourth face-to-face meeting with the Redskins.

Schefter says that the two sides are discussing a four-year extension, which would match the length of Tom Brady’s deal in New England. (But, surely, the money won’t be anywhere close.)

The fact that the two sides are talking doesn’t mean a deal is coming. Well-publicized recent events surely will factor into the decision-making process, both from the perspective of the team (which benched him two Sundays ago) and from the perspective of the player (who surely remains quietly upset about the benching).

As to the benching, Jay Glazer of FOX reports that McNabb won’t be yanked from Monday night’s game absent a complete meltdown. Per Glazer, McNabb has gotten all the first-team reps this week in practice, after a trend that had seen Rex Grossman getting more and more, leading up to the Week Eight benching.
