Benign Tumor Removed From Kenny Iwebema’s Chest

Cardinals defensive end Kenny Iwebema is a lucky man. Routine X-rays taken on April 30 revealed the presence of a tumor in his chest. It was the size of a baseball. Though benign, it reportedly could have become life-threatening if it had not been found. The tumor was removed on Monday, and he’s expected to be ready for training camp. The mass was located between Iwebema’s sternum and heart. Despite its size, doctors were able to remove it via laparoscopic technology, which is far less invasive than the alternative. “It was very close,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said, per the Associated Press. “Had it been a little bit bigger, they would have had to crack his chest, which would have put him out for the year.” Iwebema, a fourth-round pick in 2008 from Iowa, appeared in 13 games during his rookie year.
