Earlier this summer, there were reports that Cardinals right tackle Bobby Massie had been suspended three games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, but the lack of an official announcement meant that there could be a change based on Massie’s appeal.
The suspension became official on Saturday and it is for two games rather than three. Massie will be eligible to return for the team’s September 27 game against the 49ers, but will not be eligible to practice with the team until after their Week Two game against the Bears.
Coach Bruce Arians said during the week that the starter at right tackle for the opener against the Saints was still up in the air. Bradley Sowell and Earl Watford each started preseason games at the position and the Cardinals had some issues with pass protection this summer, although Arians said that part of the issue was Carson Palmer not getting rid of the ball quickly enough.
Massie started all 16 games for Arizona last season.
