Brandon Marshall will get to keep the jersey No. 15 after a deal with teammate Saalim Hakim.
Marshall, who also wore 15 with the Broncos and Bears, wanted to wear 15 with the Jets as well. But Hakim, who already had it, said Marshall would have to beat him in a race to get it from him. That wouldn’t happen; Hakim is one of the fastest players in the NFL and was timed at 4.23 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day.
The Jets, however, announced on Thursday that Marshall will wear No. 15. There was no word on how Marshall got the number from Hakim, but given that it’s almost impossible to imagine Marshall winning a race between the two, Marshall presumably agreed to pay Hakim for the number. Hakim had said his asking price would be $25,000 if Marshall couldn’t beat him in the race.
A high-profile player like Marshall getting the No. 15 may be good news for Jets fans who bought Tim Tebow jerseys. Tebow also wore 15; now Jets fans can just cover Tebow’s name with Marshall’s.
