Browns won’t pursue Burress

As the potential suitors for receiver Plaxico Burress plot a post-lockout run at the former Steeler and Giant, word is trickling out as to the teams that aren’t interested.

The latest? Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Browns.

Which makes sense, since Plaxico probably isn’t interested in Cleveland.

And that’s not a slap at the city or the team. The fit just doesn’t seem to be there. He’s going to want to play for a contender and/or for a team with an established quarterback and/or in a situation where he will catch a lot of passes. Right now, Cleveland doesn’t fit any of those categories.

Sure, they could become a contender and Colt McCoy could be the real deal, but there are safer bets out there for Burress.
