Technically, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer remains under contract through 2015. But the contract voids five days after the Super Bowl.
Which means that, come March, Palmer will be a free agent. Unless he isn’t.
He won’t be if he signs a contract extension, and the signs currently are pointing to Palmer signing a contract extension in the very near future.
Palmer, the first overall pick in the 2003 draft who also has played for the Bengals and Raiders, makes a base salary of $9 million this year. He also received a $1 million roster bonus.
The Cardinals have accumulated a record of 7-1 with Palmer, who missed three games with a dead nerve in his shoulder, at quarterback. A new contract likely means rookie Logan Thomas won’t be ascending to the starting lineup in the immediate future.
