Cornerback Champ Bailey entered the NFL in 1999, drafted in the top 10 by Washington. After five seasons, Bailey was shipped to the Broncos for running back Clinton Portis.
After 10 years with the Broncos and an unsuccessful effort earlier this year to win a job in New Orleans, Bailey has retired. Via the Denver Post, Bailey will sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Broncos on Tuesday.
A sure-fire Hall of Famer, Bailey’s first and only Super Bowl appearance came in his final NFL game.
For his career, Bailey had 52 interceptions and seven forced fumbles. He scored four regular-season touchdowns on interception returns -- three in 2007.
Early on, Bailey supplemented his defensive expertise with a little offense, catching three passes for 78 yards in 2000 and running for a seven-yard touchdown. He also had a 65-yard punt return that year; in 2002, he returned 24 punts but fumbled four times, losing three of them.
