CHARGERS-CHIEFS ONE-LINERS

Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe couldn’t hold onto an onside kick, giving the Chargers the chance to pull off an improbable comeback win that kept their playoffs hope alive. Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 13 of his final 17 passes, including two touchdowns in the final 1:19. Two Chiefs defensive backs, S Jarrad Page and CB Patrick Surtain, shared blame for Chargers WR Vincent Jackson’s 42-yard catch to set up the winning score. Said Chargers WR Kasim Osgood, “When Philip went back and threw that deep ball, and Vince caught it, that’s stuff they do in practice all the time. But when they do it in a game, it’s an overwhelming sense of joy.” Said Chiefs CB Brandon Carr, “I’m confused right now. What in the world just happened? We were playing so good, stopping them and stopping them. That’s been the tale of our season. At the end of the game we just can’t close out.” After giving up 206 yards in the first half, the Chargers held the Chiefs to just 71 in the final 30 minutes. Up 14-3 at the half, the Chiefs called four running plays for RB Larry Johnson and had QB Tyler Thigpen throw the ball 10 times. Chargers G Kris Dielman was ejected for throwing a punch at Chiefs DE Tamba Hali. Thigpen blew a chance to score more points in the first half when he threw an interception on first-and-goal from the five. Johnson threw his first career touchdown pass to TE Tony Gonzalez, becoming the sixth Chief to run, catch and throw for touchdowns.
