Since trading up to the No. 2 pick in the draft five months ago, the Eagles have insisted that Sam Bradford is their starting quarterback, Chase Daniel is their backup and second overall pick Carson Wentz is the third-stringer who likely wouldn’t play as a rookie. That all changed this morning.
Now that the Eagles have traded Bradford to the Vikings, Daniel becomes the starter and Wentz will be active on Sundays and always one play away from taking over the offense.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson has long been a big believer in Daniel, who will get the third start of his NFL career when the Eagles take on the Browns in Week One. Pederson coached Daniel in Kansas City, and Pederson believes Daniel can play.
But the real player to keep an eye on in Philly is Wentz, who is the quarterback of the future for the Eagles. And, after today’s news, one step closer to being the quarterback of the present.
