The Chiefs had tried to trade quarterback Murray. They didn’t find a partner, so now they have parted ways with the 2014 fifth-round pick.

Murray, a fifth-round pick in 2014, has been waived, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

The third-year player’s source was likely sealed when the quarterback drafted by coach Andy Reid in Philadelphia became available to be signed. With Nick Foles in the fold, a numbers game arose that Murray ultimately lost.

A four-year starter at Georgia, Murray was regarded as a steal when picked by the Chiefs in round five. He now can be plucked off the waiver wire by any team that needs a quarterback.

Two have clear needs; the Cowboys have dibs over the Vikings.
