Chip Kelly: “I wish we had more people like Nick Foles in our lives”

Eagles coach Chip Kelly denied a recent report that the Eagles had “soured” on quarterback Nick Foles before his injury, and he did it in a way only Kelly can.

Via John Gonzalez of CSNPhilly.com, Kelly effectively said the report couldn’t be true since he has control of the 53-man roster.

It’s a moot point at the moment since Foles has a broken collarbone and Mark Sanchez is the starter for the next several weeks, at least.

“No, not at all,” Kelly said of the report. “I don’t know where that stuff comes from. I know this: I know I control the roster. I think you guys can see first hand, I don’t talk to anybody. So whoever says they have a source in terms of what’s going to go on with roster maneuvers, people going up and people going down, then they never talk to the right person because that comes from me. That was never the case.

“I have great faith in Nick and I think he’s a hell of a quarterback. I think sometimes he gets banged too much. I wish we had more people like Nick Foles in our lives.”

That’s all well and good, but the real test will be when Foles is well. If Sanchez has led the Eagles to the playoffs when the six to eight week recovery time is up, and they go back to Foles, then Kelly truly has a special place in his heart for his starter.
