Giants tight end Daniel Fells’s MRSA infection is so serious that he could have to have his foot amputated.

Fells had his fifth surgery last week, but that still hasn’t been enough to clear the infection. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Fells was placed in intensive care and will need more surgeries, and doctors are fighting to save his foot.

According to Rapoport, the infection stems from a cortisone shot Fells was given to treat an ankle injury and a toe injury. The Giants have already declared Fells out for the season. The infection could turn out to be career-ending.

The Giants have scrubbed their facilities and are working with specialists to attempt to prevent the spread of MRSA within their team.
