The Patriots cut long snapper Danny Aiken as they made their way to 53 players last weekend, leaving them without a snapper for punts and placekicks heading into the season.

New England remedied that problem on Thursday by turning back to Aiken. The team announced that they have re-signed the man who has done their long snapping for the last three seasons and he should be back in that familiar role against the Dolphins on Sunday.

Aiken is not the only recently dropped Patriot to find his way back to the team. Linebacker Chris White has also been re-signed, giving the Patriots back a player who played all 16 games for them as a special teamer last season. They’ve also brought quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson back to the practice squad a day after they releasing him and three days after signing him in the first place.

Defensive tackles Kelcy Quarles and Bruce Gaston, both of whom were claimed on waivers after the cut to 53 players, were released after just a few days with the team and long snapper Charley Hughlett was let go from the practice squad.
