DAVID TYREE PLACED ON IR

David Tyree’s amazing helmet-on-ball, Super Bowl-saving catch will be his last until, at least, the 2009 season. The Giants placed Tyree on injured reserve today, ending his 2008 season without seeing action in a single game. Tyree was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list in training camp after offseason knee surgery. He began practicing with the team three weeks ago and the Giants had until today to decide if Tyree would be activated, released or placed on IR. A hamstring injury suffered during practice made that decision easy for the team. Tyree knew that was a possibility and said, for the time being, he preferred it to being released and trying to play this season for another team. “I don’t want to be released. I don’t want to not be a Giant,” Tyree said. “This is where I prefer to be. But I also prefer to play football, so you have to see.” Had Tyree been healthy enough to play, Tom Coughlin said there was a plan in place to get him on the roster.
