This time, Dez Bryant talked to reporters. And unlike last week, he did it in a normal tone.
Of course, the conversation centered on his role in the latest Cowboys loss, which included dropping a key third-down pass and complaining about pass interference instead of making a play on the game-sealing interception.
But he was calm about it, so that’s a start.
“I thought I was going to get it,” Bryant said of the penalty that would have negated Bradley McDougald’s interception, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com “It’s unfortunate. Me as a player and the attitude I have, I was so caught up in that little quick moment, of I know the ref seen it and know he’s going to call it but he didn’t. I’m not trying to make excuses, but it just kind of threw me off my target. I wasn’t focused on it. Just an unfortunate situation.”
There were many of those for the Cowboys, who lost their seventh straight game to cap a week which including Bryant’s own tirade at the media, which he said wasn’t a factor in the game.
“To be really honest about this situation, yeah [it was a rough week], but I’m not going to say it had anything to do with my performance,” Bryant said. “Like I said, we were just in a lot of unfortunate situations today. . . .
“I think it’s more of a problem whenever a lot of you guys make it an issue. Everybody in the locker room knows what we do. We know how we roll. It’s never what y’all think. If you ask the other guys, you’ll probably get the same answers. Y’all ask those questions. Nobody in Dallas, Texas, asks those questions.”
Plenty of people have plenty of questions about the Cowboys. But Bryant has no answer for their 2-7 record, but at least deserves credit for politely stating the attempts he made.
