Drew Brees is likely a game or two away from becoming the fourth player in NFL history to throw 400 career touchdown passes.
Unless Tom Brady gets there first, in which case Brees is a game or two away from becoming the fifth player in NFL history to throw 400 career touchdown passes.
After Week One, Brees has 397 touchdowns in his NFL career, while Brady currently stands at 396.
Brees has a better chance of throwing three touchdown passes against the weak Buccaneers’ defense on Sunday than Brady has of throwing four touchdown passes against the strong Bills’ defense on Sunday, so Brees is the favorite to get into the 400-touchdown club first. But it’ll be a close race, and they’ll continue to race toward third place on the all-time list, a spot currently occupied by Dan Marino, who finished his career with 420 career touchdown passes.
If they keep playing well for a few more years, Brees and Brady could both surpass Brett Favre, who’s in second place with 508 career touchdown passes. They’ll have a harder time catching Peyton Manning, the touchdown record holder, who has 530 touchdown passes and is still going.
