After being penalized for lining up incorrectly and wiping out a 57-yard touchdown by tight end Zach Ertz in Seattle on Sunday, Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor said that he has to “get out of my own head” and that he’s “pressing so much” mentally during a season that’s seen him struggle with dropped passes as well.

It looks like there’s a good chance that he’ll get some time to step back and let things decompress a bit. At his press conference on Monday, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said that the team is promoting wide receiver Paul Turner from the practice squad and that he’ll be talking to Agholor about how to move forward.

“I will definitely have a conversation with Nelson, and I’ll address that as we get later into the week,” Pederson said. “But those are definitely concerns that I have, now that he’s obviously come out and said that publicly. My concern is for him as an individual, as a person, and I want to make sure that he’s in a good spot. Hey, listen, put football aside; we all know about that. But I want to make sure that he, as a person, is doing good, so we’ll have that conversation during the week.”

Pederson said he couldn’t recall another player who has been as deep in his own head as Agholor and that players sometimes need to take “a step back in order to go forward.” Given how often the Eagles have shown other players acquired under Chip Kelly the door since dispatching their former coach, Agholor’s shot at a step forward probably isn’t guaranteed to come in Philadelphia.
