The Giants have lost 20 of the last 32 games that they have played and they’ve seen several members of their roster underperform on the way to those dismal results.

A notable exception to that group has been wide receiver Odell Beckham. Beckham has 187 catches for 2,755 yards and 25 touchdowns while missing five games in his first two NFL seasons, leaving him with one of the fastest starts to a career in NFL history. Beckham’s done that despite a lack of other reliable options to move the ball on the Giants offense, which makes it easy to believe that the team’s record would be even uglier if not for his contributions.

The Giants have tried to improve the rest of the roster this offseason, but quarterback Eli Manning says that the team needs even more from Beckham if they are going to succeed in 2016.

“Odell has obviously done great things, but we need him to raise his level as well,” Manning said, via the New York Daily News. “There are things he can work on and we ask a lot of him. He’s required to know a lot of different routes and a lot of techniques and exactly how to do it. That’s the way he’s gonna get a lot of balls and be in position to do a lot of things.”

Like most players, Beckham has areas he can improve and polish his game but recent Giants history and overall NFL history says that the team is going to need more across the entire lineup in order to boost their spot in the standings. As great as Beckham has been, one player carrying the load has not historically been the path to great success in professional football.
