Yes, X-rays were negative on Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles’ foot. But that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be back at practice tomorrow.
Publicly, the Chiefs are calling the injury a foot strain. Privately, per a source with knowledge of the situation, it’s regarded as a foot sprain.
At this point, the extent of the foot sprain isn’t known. It could, in theory, be a Lisfranc-style injury involving the midfoot. Often, potentially serious Lisfranc injuries don’t show up on an X-ray.
It’s too early to know whether Charles does or doesn’t have a Lisfranc injury. But a foot sprain generating negative X-rays doesn’t mean Charles is fine or will be back quickly.
That said, coach Andy Reid told reporters Charles could be back at practice on Tuesday. If he is, that would be the time for Chiefs fans to exhale.
