GARRETT GETS “SECOND INTERVIEW”

Though it appeared as of Friday evening that Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was returning to St. Louis to eventually be announced as the team’s new head coach, the visit officially is being described as a “second interview.” Jim Thomas and Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch aren’t buying it. Indeed, Garrett already had a “finalist” interview on Wednesday. G.M. Billy Devaney seemed to suggest that Garrett was the one who wanted to return for a closer look at the city and the organization. “Jason didn’t know much about St. Louis, and he wanted to look at the facility,” Devaney told the Post-Dispatch. “We’re not close to moving on Jason Garrett. I’m not even going to say he’s the leading guy.” It sounds like Garrett wants to be. “I just was asked to come back up here, and I’m excited to be back here,” Garrett said. “I think there are a lot of things that would attract me to this job here. Certainly the history of the franchise and Billy being in place and a number of other things. It’s a great city, great tradition here with the Rams. So there are number of things that make this attractive.” Other reports suggest that a hire could be made this weekend. And with Garrett the only candidate currently in town, it’s hard not to believe that he’s in first place.
